Move Forward After Abuse—Without Ignoring What Still Hurts
Trauma Therapy for Individuals
in Tampa Bay, and throughout Florida
When part of you wants to move forward—but another part still feels stuck, hurting, or unsure
After experiencing domestic, sexual, or relational abuse, it can feel like you’re being pulled in different directions. Part of you knows something wasn’t right… while another part still feels connected, confused, or unsure what to do next.
You might find yourself caught between guilt, fear, anger, or even a desire for justice. Maybe you’ve tried to move forward—but the impact of what you’ve been through is still showing up in ways you didn’t expect.
These experiences can leave you questioning yourself—what happened, what it means about you, or why it’s been so hard to move on. If you’re carrying shame or self-blame, you’re not alone—and you’re not the only one who feels this way.
And if you’re a parent, you may be focusing all of your energy on making sure your children are safe and okay—telling yourself, “as long as they’re okay, I’m okay.”
But you don’t have to hold all of this by yourself.
Therapy can be a place where you don’t have to rush, explain everything perfectly, or have it all figured out.
Together, we’ll gently explore what’s happening beneath the surface—not just by talking about your experiences, but by noticing what comes up for you in real time. This kind of work can help you better understand the different parts of you that feel stuck, overwhelmed, or in conflict.
As you begin to relate to those parts with more clarity and compassion, something shifts.
Healing starts to feel more possible—not forced, but grounded in your own pace and readiness.
You don’t have to be completely certain about what happened—or what you need—in order to begin.
I’m Norlan McKenzie, a trauma therapist based in the Tampa Bay area. I help individuals heal from domestic, sexual, and relational abuse, as well as teens navigating the impact of family conflict and relational harm.
I offer a safe, compassionate space where you can begin to understand what you’ve been through. Together, we gently explore the parts of you holding pain, fear, anger, or guilt—so you can feel more grounded, rebuild self-trust, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
